In celebration of Breastfeeding Week* (1 to 7 November 2012) the Network of Breastfeeding and Motherhood Support Groups invites us to their breastfeeding event on Sunday 4 November 2012 at the White Tower in Thessaloniki, as well as in 21 other cities in Greece!
“IF I CAN DO IT…. YOU CAN DO IT TOO”
Mothers from different parts of Greece participate for the third consecutive year in the Nationwide Simultaneous Breastfeeding, which aims to promote, support and provide information, not just through a brochure or a speech, but in practice through actual breastfeeding. There will also be discussions and distribution of information material, while mothers will have the chance to meet and talk with each other!
Most members of the Network of Breastfeeding and Motherhood Support Groups will participate in this event that will take place in all major Greek cities! All members of the Network operate voluntarily in order to promote, support and share information “from mother to mother”.
The group “Thessaloniki ― Pregnancy ― Childbirth ― Breastfeeding” awaits us at 11 am at the White Tower to breastfeed “like at home”.
Although breastfeeding is free and does not follow timetables, the babies who will want to breastfeed at around 12:00 will be counted in the Nationwide Simultaneous Breastfeeding which will take place the same time in all cities!
We will be waiting for you all around Greece, mommies, daddies, pregnant ladies, grandmas and everyone else who supports breastfeeding and would like to get informed and celebrate the Breastfeeding Week!
The event will include activities for our older children, yoga for mothers and infants, information sharing by breastfeeding experts and midwifes and many more surprises.
* In 1992, Breastfeeding Week was established by WABA (World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action), the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF on 1-7 August. In Greece, Breastfeeding Week is celebrated from 1 to 7 November and this year’s theme is “Understanding the Past, Planning the Future”. This year marks the twentieth anniversary since the first Breastfeeding Week and the tenth anniversary since September 2002 that WHO and UNICEF adopted the Global Strategy for Infant and Young Child Feeding.
