A Journey into the World of Preschool Children

February – June 2017

Standalone Meetings

The family is the first school of emotional and social education that a child is exposed to. Studies in the field of emotional education show that parental behavior has a profound and lasting impact on the psychosocial life of the child, and these effects begin in the cradle.

The Psychosocial Developmental Stages of Preschool Children.
In this meeting, we will explore the characteristics of the child's physical and psychosocial development. We will discuss what we expect at each developmental stage of the child (e.g. when we expect him/her to eat alone, when he/she is ready to use the toilet, until when we think he/she can sleep in the parents' room), we will ask ourselves about our own attitudes that help or possibly hinder the child's emotional development and we will think about what a child's difficulties in these areas may mean.
The more a parent knows about a child's developmental stages, the better prepared they are to deal with any changes appropriate to the child's age, to avoid unjustified concerns, and to know how to approach the child during this specific time period.

Boundaries & Discipline: The Most Precious Gift After Your Love.

Why do I have difficulty setting limits for my child?
• Am I doing something wrong?
• Why isn't he listening to me?
• Why do we always have to argue?
• Am I being too strict?
• Am I spoiling him/her?
• What is the correct way to discipline?
The main goal of this talk is to explore the most basic issues we face in setting boundaries with our children and to explore new ways in which we can improve our relationship with each other. Setting boundaries and discipline in children's lives is a difficult issue that concerns many parents. This talk will examine issues such as the causes of disobedience, the effects of punishment, the effectiveness of discipline, the importance of communication, understanding positive feedback and a calm environment in setting boundaries, as well as imitating parental behavior. It will also emphasize the contribution of boundaries to the mental balance of children and the ways for effective boundary setting that lead to self-awareness and self-efficacy.

The Role of Grandparents in Raising Children: Valuable Help or Cause of Conflict?

The relationship between grandparents and their grandchildren is undoubtedly unique! The role that grandparents have in the family has always been important, but in recent decades, as more and more parents rely on their help to care for their children, this role has gained greater value and attention. For many years, parents had become independent and enjoyed not relying on their parents. Suddenly, however, the presence of children comes and changes the situation, bringing back and making the help of their parents (now grandparents) necessary again!

But what happens when parents complain about the mixed messages their children receive from grandparents? What happens when the increased involvement of grandparents creates complications? How can the parent-child, and grandparent-grandchild relationship be redefined?

Raising Children Full of Self-Esteem!

How can I encourage my child to cultivate self-esteem and self-confidence? Encouragement is the process by which we focus our attention on the positive aspects of children and help them believe in themselves and their abilities. In this meeting we will explore ways to encourage our children and cultivate self-esteem, and social cooperation.

“Mom, I'm scared!” – Facing children's fears & phobias.

Fears, small or large, are an integral part of our children's lives. Fear is an emotion that can motivate but also immobilize children in their daily lives and activities. What could be behind these fears? How is a fear "born"? How do we help children deal with it?
In this talk, we will first understand the mechanisms through which we learn to fear, the factors that determine the intensity and quality of children's fears. We will also explore how children manifest their fears and which are the most common depending on age, the situations where fear turns into a phobia and of course the ways in which we can help children effectively manage their fears.

Preschool Sexuality.

This talk will discuss what sexuality is, at what ages and in what forms it emerges, the feelings it evokes in us, and how we manage situations that arise regarding children's sexuality. Specifically, the following questions will be explored:
What is sexuality?
Is it normal for a child to masturbate?
Until what age is he allowed to see us naked and sleep in our bed?
What happens when he starts exploring other people's bodies?
How should I talk to him about sex? At what age?

Children facing grief and loss.

How can I talk to my child about a death, a breakup, or an illness?
The experience of death or the loss of a loved one is particularly painful for both the child and the parent. In this talk, we will present the way children understand the concept of death and loss at each developmental stage. We will also discuss how we can support our children in the grieving process, so that they can say goodbye to what they are losing or leaving and integrate the losses into their lives.
